Omorfia
I created Omorfia during my metalsmithing internship as an exploration of how natural forms can inform functional design. I spend much of my time sketching from nature, and I have always been especially drawn to the intricate structure of butterflies. This internship allowed me to transform observational sketches and conceptual ideas into a fully realized piece. I was particularly interested in challenging the materiality of metal and questioning how a material known for its rigidity could be manipulated to suggest softness, movement, and fluidity. Rather than feeling fixed or heavy, I wanted the form to appear light and almost weightless.
By juxtaposing the delicate essence of butterfly wings with the strength of metal, Omorfia blurs the line between fragility and durability. The result is a piece that captures the grace of nature while merging sculpture and function, embodying both structural integrity and expressive freedom.
